Aftermarket lighting has greatly evolved over the last few years. With companies offering many different options for off road riding the choices can become cloudy to say the least. This article will focus on helmet mounted lights for dirt bikes, atvs and snowmobiles. First, what use does a helmet mounted light have? Helmet lights provide light wherever the rider looks, this is very useful to spot landings, see around corners, view side trails or terrain, climb and descend steep hills, etc. Over all they make night riding much more safe and fun. For racers they can mean the difference between winning and being the first loser. Many racers actually see their lap times improve at night. Although that appears to be focus and concentration related.

Could you imagine not having lamps at home? – no fluorescent lamps, study lamps, ceiling lamps? I guess not. Lamps or bulbs are so much a part of our society that we seldom give them much notice. However, we cannot imagine living without them.

You do not have the dollars for a new car and your first date with the school belle is coming up. Spruce up your old jalopy with an HID kit and light up the highways. You’ll be glad you did.

Xenon light is a relatively new technology in lighting, proving to be brighter than most artificial lighting, including halogen, and even more cost- and energy-efficient, as well. Xenon light produces five times more light than Halogen lights, and lasts even ten times longer. It has now replaced Halogen bulbs in automobile headlights.

High-intensity discharge (HID) lamps are a type of electrical lamps which produce light by means of an electric arc between tungsten electrodes housed inside a translucent or transparent fused quartz or fused alumina tube.

HID, or high definition, lamps are typically required when high levels of light are needed to cover large areas. They are the lights you see at ballgames and theme parks, at stadiums and in gyms.

HID – High Intensity Discharge – The HID system is a lighting system containing a set of 2 bulbs, 2 ballasts and 2 starters. These kits are designed to produce more light and last longer than any other lighting kits out there. HID kits are a complete replacement to your existing headlight bulb, yet they are extremely easy to install. That starter takes the signal from the vehicle and quickly sends it to the ballast. The ballast then amplifies the signal to a high current signal and sends it to the bulb. The plug in HID bulb receives the signal and creates the light. The bulb is filled with a mixture of gases and salts. When the bulb receives the amplified power from the ballast, it energizes the gases in the bulb creating a white/blue light output. The color varies, depending on the Kelvin (K)/color temperature of the kit.
