If you wake up day after day only to find your bank balance replenished by a few million dollars, chances are at some point, you won’t know what to do with it. Take this Porsche 911 owner for example. He couldn’t find ways to get rid of the fast-accumulating green paper and did this to himself.- A 40- pound pure gold covered Porsche 911.

We find the idea annoying but appreciate the work that has gone into it. The carvings and designs on the surface are brilliant and would have taken weeks to complete by an extremely set of talented and skilled individuals. The polished surface looks nice and should have masked the rear-view mirrors entirely, eliminating the need for a reflective glass and related electronics for adjustments, but maybe next time?!

Driving a Porsche 911 on the streets would grab enough attention leave alone a gold-covered one. Is the Sultan of Brunei reading this?

The new 2009 Porsche 911 went on sale today in Germany. Prices are as follows: €83,032 for the Carrera. The Carrera Cabriolet and Carrera S both cost €93,980 and the price of the Carrera S Cabriolet is €104,928 (all prices include VAT at 19 percent).

The newly developed 3.6 and 3.8 liter flat six cylinder engines provide a very dynamic drive for the two coupés and cabriolets with classic rear wheel drive. The use of direct fuel injection for the first time ever and the PDK, available as an option, make the 911 even sportier than ever.

At the same time, these technologies give a lasting improvement to the already exemplary efficiency of the 911 models. This means that the Carrera Coupé with PDK and 345 bhp achieves fuel consumption of 9.8 litres per 100 kilometers, while the CO2 emissions are reduced by up to 15 percent. The 911 Carrera S Coupé now produces 385 bhp from its new 3.8 litre engine with a maximum speed of just under 300 km/h.

Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, will launch the next generation of the 911 range in the salesrooms of the 85 German Porsche centers next Saturday, July 5, 2008. The car was first presented to more than 800 journalists from around the world a month ago at the Development Center in Weissach and at the Schloss Monrepos near Ludwigsburg, where particularly its new transmission technology drew excellent reviews.

Bernhard Maier, Managing Director of Porsche Deutschland GmbH, places correspondingly high expectations on the new models: “Our engineers have once again done a fantastic job with the current generation 911: more performance, more sporty, but significantly less fuel consumption and CO2 emissions – that’s what our customers expect from Porsche. I am con-vinced that the new models will give a significant boost to our sales in the second half of the year.“

The heart of Porsche has been beating for 70 years

It was on June 26, 1938 that Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche KG, as the enterprise was then called, moved from Kronenstrasse 24 in the center of Stuttgart to newly-built premises in the district of Zuffenhausen. In May 1937, Ferry Porsche had already acquired a site there at the address Spitalwaldstrasse 2 (as it then was), thus determining the location of the later Porsche factory. 70 years on, the building newly completed in 1938 still forms a central part of the factory complex in Zuffenhausen.

Right from the beginning, an important chapter of motoring history was written at the main factory in Zuffenhausener: after the first prototypes of the Volkswagen had been pieced together – still in the garage of the Porsche villa on the Stuttgart Killesberg hill – the pilot series of what became known as the “VW-Beetle” was made in Zuffenhausen in 1938.

The bodies, built in the neighbouring car body works Karosseriewerk Reutter, were mounted on chassis at Porsche and exhaustively tested. Also of historic significance is the building of three Type 64 racing coupés in 1939. Originally intended for the Berlin-Rome long distance race, the aerodynamically streamlined cars are regarded as the forbears of all subsequent Porsche models.
